Bailey Tadlock scored on a header off a corner kick to give visiting Christian Brothers a double-overtime 3-2 victory over the Lady Flames at the Lee Soccer Field on Friday afternoon.
Playing under near perfect conditions, the two teams battled to a scoreless first half. Lee broke the scoring ice in the 49th minute on a penalty kick by Kelsey Yoder. It was her sixth goal of the year. Christian Brothers tied the score at the 62:52 mark on Shelby Goodrich's first goal of the year. The one-timer off a corner was assisted by Tadlock.
Just eight seconds later (63:00) the Lady Flames went back on top 2-1 when Riley Engels ripped a shot into the back of the net from the top of the box. It was her fourth goal of the season. The visiting Bucs would not go away and immediately tied the contest in the 64th minute on Sinead Tierney's ninth goal of the year. Tadlock, a factor in the entire contest, was credited with the assist.
After a scoreless first overtime period, Tadlock gave Christian Brothers the victory at the 105:53 mark. Tierney and Melissa Tammi celebrated the assist.
The contest saw the Lady Flames out shoot the Bucs 25-15. Lee had 14 shots on goal to just eight for CBU. Bucs keeper Riley Chafin saved the day for the Memphis club with 11 saves, while Taylor Green had five in taking the loss.
"I'm at a loss of what to say. We played well enough to win and created some excellent opportunities to score but found ourselves on the losing end," commented Lee head coach Chris Hennessey after his team dropped to 7-5-1 overall and 4-4 in Gulf South Conference play. The big win improved Christian Brothers record to 6-4-1 and 5-3 in league play.
The Lady Flames will have a short rest before returning to the Lee Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. hosting rival Union University. "Sunday now becomes a top priority for us," said Hennessey in closing.
