Anna Marie Wright Sanders, age 97, passed away peacefully at her home, on February 16, 2018, following a short illness with her family at her side.

She was predeceased by her parents, Leroy and Molly Arilla Hargis Wright; husband, Robert W. Sanders; son, David Kermit Sanders; daughter, Bobbye Ann Sanders Taylor, sisters, Virginia Hoover and Lou Agnes Deramus; and grandson, Robert Hunter. 

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Sanders Hunter; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. 

Her career included teaching in the Marion County School system and later working as a social worker for the State of Tennessee, supervising staff in Marion and Grundy Counties departments of Human Services.  

A true United Methodist, she joined Holly Avenue United Methodist Church in 1941 and also remained loyal to her home church, Tracy City First United Methodist. She was elected as a delegate to the United Methodist Church General Conference, she served in many roles to help the needy, teach the youth and was instrumental in starting the food bank at the church.  

Anna Marie was a passionate and devout Democrat, and a compassionate and liberal thinker.  In 2001, she was awarded the Paul Turner Democrat of the Year, and was an avid recruiter and campaigner for the party.  

As she directed, a private service of Christian Committal was conducted graveside by Pastor Logan Jackson on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 3:30 p.m. CST with no visitation, and burial at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens.
