On another rainy, dreary afternoon at Frost Stadium, the Chattanooga Mocs softball team dropped a rain-shortened 7-2 contest to WKU on the third day of the Chattanooga Challenge.
After the loss, Chattanooga falls to 3-5 on the season. WKU improved to 7-3 after the win.
UTC collected only five hits as a team and allowed 13 to WKU in the defeat. J.J. Hamill finished 1-for-3 and drove in the Mocs only runs on a two-run homerun, her first of the season.
The Mocs opened the game’s scoring in the bottom of the third on a two out rally from Hayleigh Weissenbach and J.J.
Hamill. Weissenbach singled through the right side before Hamill launched a homerun over the right center fence, giving UTC the 2-0 advantage.
WKU answered in a big way with three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-2 lead. The Hilltoppers used a two-run single and a wind-blown pop up to plate the trio of runs in the fourth before scoring their three runs via the long ball in the fifth. WKU would add a run in the sixth to make it 7-2.
The game was called early with one out in the top of the seventh due to rain. The game is complete and WKU earns the victory.
Freshman Allison Swinford (1-1) suffered the loss in the circle after she tossed 4.1 innings while allowing nine hits and six runs (all earned).
