John Lester
John James Lester, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018, in Georgia.
He was a graduate of West Fulton High School in Atlanta, and received his degree in Business Administration from Georgia State University. He served our country in the Navy during World War II and Army during the Korean War. He was a State Farm Insurance agent in Dunwoody, Ga. for over 57 years. He was a member of Dunwoody Baptist Church and served as Past President of the Sandy Springs Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the American Legion Post # 233, Loganville, Georgia. John was a longtime member of the Chattanooga Yacht Club. He loved cars, boating and people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Byron and Mary Lester; wife, Wanda J. Lester; and siblings, Alice Morris and Louis Britton.
John is survived by his two daughters, Lynda Hampshire and husband, Michael, and Nancy Sturdivant and her fiancé’, Andrew Peternell; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many close friends.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Services will follow at 1:30 p,m, on Sunday, at the North Chapel.
Celebration of Life will be at the Chattanooga Yacht Club, 9400 North Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416, immediately following the service.
