Cleveland State Community College will be partnering with the Tennessee Education Technology Association and the Tennessee Board of Regents to host their annual P-16 Summer Summit on Teaching with Technology on Wednesday, June 6 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. This conference is open to teachers, principals, supervisors and all interested parties throughout the state. Tennessee Academy of School Leaders credit will be awarded to requesting participants and participation hours will apply to license renewal for teachers.
“This is our Annual P-16 Teaching with Technology conference that we hold at CSCC each June," stated Keri Eyeler, Continuing Education coordinator. “This conference is to provide a 'one stop' place for all educators or anyone interested to come and receive 8 CEU's for the day. In this year's conference, we have over 18 speakers that will be presenting topics that all center around using technology. The vast majority of the sessions are applicable to any educational level.”
Joel Cox, Federal Programs director for Polk County Schools, has attended the summit in the past. “The Cleveland State P-16 Technology Summit is one of the best drive-in conferences to attend,” stated Mr. Cox. “Each year, I learn something new about technology that can be used in teacher classrooms usually without spending more money to do so. Learning from other teachers is the best. They have already implemented the ideas and will continue to help you through social media and email. As the Federal Programs director, this is one of the least expensive meetings for teachers to attend. All my teachers return and try new things to help students learn. Cleveland State is the ideal location - no fighting big city traffic, easy walking distances between buildings and a very relaxed day of learning.”
“I really enjoyed my time at the P-16 Summer Summit and had the opportunity to meet some great people,” stated Jonathan Schoolcraft, Northwest Middle School mathematics instructor. “I presented four sessions at P-16 Summer Summit last year, and this year, I am looking forward to being able to attend a couple of sessions, as well as presenting. I am presenting on Edulastic, which is a free online assessment tool, and I am also presenting on Plickers, Quizizz and Kahoot, which are three tech tools that teachers can use in their classroom, both for assessment, and as informal practice for kids.
Mr. Schoolcraft continued, “I am glad that CSCC hosts this summit, as this is my second year presenting and I am really looking forward to it.”
