Fire Causes Heavy Damage To Home On Grand Avenue

  • Sunday, April 29, 2018

A fire on Saturday evening caused heavy damage to a home on Grand Avenue.

At 6:15 p.m., units responded to the residential fire at 4316 Grand Ave. Upon arrival it was unclear if everyone was out of the structure so firefighters with Quint 14 did a primary search.

All the residents were already out of the structure and unharmed.

The fire was quickly brought under control by fire units and was determined to be electrical in nature. The working smoke detectors alerted one of the five children, who was playing outside at the time of the fire. The children entered the residence and found the fire. They then alerted the mother and all exited the residence.

Quint 14, Quint 2, Quint 1, Squad 1, and Ladder 1 responded to the incident. EPB American Gas Company, CPD, and HCEMS also responded to assist.

American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the mother and five children.

There was approximately $40,000 worth of damage. The structure was estimated to be $60,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
