Police have charged a Chattanooga woman with stealing items from the home of her deceased next-door neighbor.
Kelly Denise Hamrick also was running her cable from the house next door.
Ms. Hamrick, 44, of 3113 E. 44th St., is charged with aggravated burglary and theft over $2,500.
William Daughtrey said everything was in order at the home of his deceased brother on Feb. 16. He said when he returned later he found the residence had been ransacked. Items missing included a 78" Samsung TV, a Sony PS4, dolls, two guitars, a mandolin, baseballs, a safe, DVDs and a Bose speaker.
A detective was told there was a large curved TV at the neighbor's house they had just gotten.
Ms. Hamrick claimed she got the TV from a black male named Bubba for $200. She said she got the PS4 from the same individual for another $200. The detective retrieved thos items from Ms. Hamrick.
At the time he said, "I observed a cable line from the Daughtrey residence to Hamrick's residence as she was stealing the deceased's cable as well."
Police said Ms. Hamrick had the TV soon after it was found to be missing, and she told someone she had paid $1,000 for it and another person she bought it from her cousin for $400.
A pawn search found that on Feb. 17 Ms. Hamrick pawned a 1972 Hixson High class ring at EZ Pawn on Rossville Boulevard. The brother said Mr. Daughtrey graduated from Hixson High in 1972. He said his initials - JMD - should be on the ring. The initials JMD were found on the ring.
