  • Sunday, April 8, 2018

Police officers working an extra job at Erlanger Hospital were notified of a shattered glass door at the David P. McCallie Building entrance of the hospital. Police inspected the area outside the door and did not find any shell casings but noticed several small rocks on the ground just outside the door. Police looked inside the door for a bullet due to it being a double-paned glass door with only one side shattered, but were unable to locate anything. Police did observe a dime-sized hole in the middle of the shattered door. Police were unable to locate and determine the cause of the hole in the door that caused it to shatter.

At Elliot's Boots & Shoes on Hixson Pike, the manager said he observed an unknown black couple acting in concert while concealing two pair of "Teva" brand sandals (valued at $140) into a personal handbag. Another black male suspect played his role of an inquisitive shopper by feigning interest in random merchandise just long enough to distract the lone sales associate. The trio abruptly exited the business and fled the scene in a tan GMC Suburban, going northbound along Hixson Pike.

The manager of the Brainerd Walmart said a black female came into the store and was shopping around for quite some time. She stated the woman knew what she wanted and gathered up all of the items and placed them close by the door. The manager then confronted her and asked if she could help her with anything. The female stated that she did not need assistance and then grabbed all of the items and ran out of the store. The woman, who was wearing a black hat with tan lettering, got into a white Chevy Impala with a handicap license plate. The store could only estimate about $1,000 worth of clothes and shoes were taken.

A resident of Nurick Drive stated that he was attempting to sell an armoire on Craigslist for $525. An unknown party contacted him through text and stated that he wanted the item and would send him a check via the mail and have movers pick up the piece after the check cleared. He agreed and when he received the check in the mail he deposited it in his account. He noticed that the check was written for $2,150 and, when he asked the suspect about the extra amount, the suspect stated that the rest was to cover delivery fees. After the check cleared, the man was contacted by the suspect again who instructed him to go to Walmart and take out gift cards. At this point the local man  became suspicious and, upon a closer look at the check and finding it was from S. Conley Sales Inc, he contacted the company. Officials there informed him that he was being scammed and that they were already dealing with the problem on their end. He then contacted his bank to inform them of the situation, which is when he was instructed to call police.
