Marlon Brando In One Eyed Jacks, The Restoration, Screening At The Backlot At Heritage House May 21

  • Tuesday, May 15, 2018

In cooperation with The Film Foundation, Heritage House presents the new 4K restoration of Marlon Brando's directorial debut, One Eyed Jacks, on Monday, May 21.

Review of the movie:

In this 1961 Western, Brando plays Rio, one half of a pair of bank robbers set on vengeance after his partner, Dad Longworth (Karl Malden) takes the loot and abandons him to be captured.

In addition to Brando's mesmerizing performance, the film features an outstanding performance by Karl Malden as Rio's partner, Dad Longworth, in addition to stellar outings by Western film stalwarts and character actors Katy Jurado, Ben Johnson, Slim Pickens, Timothy Carey and Elisha Cook, Jr.

Early script work on the film was done by director Sam Peckinpah and the project was originally attached to director Stanley Kurbrick.

Recently restored with the assistance of directors Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, the film is now returned to its original grandeur.

The film will be preceded by the Chattanooga Film Festival short comedy selection "A Fistful of Pistols," by local filmmaker Joe Heath.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for snacking and "meet & greet" time (business cards and/or headshots recommended for filmmakers and talent).

Welcome and screening presentation begin at 7 p.m.

Admission is free.  The donation of a simple potluck item (Tex-Mex, anyone?) or non-alcoholic "mocktail" is suggested.

Typical events at The Backlot include presentations by working professionals, casting calls for short films and features, screenwriting workshops and readings and screenings of recently completed films and essential "film study" classics.

Anyone with an interest in the process of filmmaking (either 'in-front-of' or 'behind' the camera) is welcome.
