Re:  Roy Exum: Is This Civil War II?

Yes, the good Dr. accurately stated the situation.

We are all accustomed to Roy Exum’s usually flawed arguments about..., well, almost everything. This time though, Roy finds support in a short, obscure, unreferenced text of a deceased professor unable to defend himself against whatever misuse might be made of it.

Professor Jack Minzey’s argument as adopted by Roy is that “we're in a civil war between conservative volunteer government and a leftist Democrat professional government.” The fallacy of the argument is surprising in that it come from a professor who should have been better versed in Logic 101. There is no point in arguing the merits and necessity of the federal civil service system or the principles of professionalism in the public or private sector, because the fallacy of the argument is so stark.

In fact, the entire argument unravels with just this observation: Robert Mueller happens to be a lifelong Republican, and Trump is a lifelong criminal. There is no reason for such a reckless cry of “civil war.” Radical “conservatives” need to chill out and let the Constitution and the rule of law prevail. Otherwise,...?

The only thing that he didn't mention is where is the money?  Financial interests bought the Republicans in the 70's.  The Democrats wised up in the 90's under Clinton.  America was controlled by economics for the first 200 years.

We need finance to power the engine which is the economy but they play a zero sum game.  They are not the creators of wealth.  They just churn it for the sake of the next quarter.  Donald Trump knows this and that's what he's fighting.

Remember when candidate Trump said, "Wall Street is making lots and lots and lots of money.  When I'm president, they'll still make lots of money."  He knows what's going on but no one has the guts to say it because they'd probably end up dead.

If you want an in depth analysis, you need to talk to my husband, Bill.

There is a cultural Civil War going on. If you don't believe it, go out and tell your friends that you believe opposite of what you really think. Heck, try posting "I support President Donald Trump" on your social media of choice. That will get you vilified by everyone. It runs pretty deep and I would estimate that we are somewhere in the late 1840's equivalent. No one has succeeded, yet.

There has been a double standard in politics for a while now. Republicans can't do anything right and Democrats have a blank check to shame (to an extreme) anyone who thinks differently. It's quite impressive the tilt that we have developed.

I find myself somewhere in between the two, but I have to say that if the Democrats keep attacking Republicans the way they have in recent years, we will see many more instances of Silent Republicans coming out to vote against Straw Man Democrats. That's how we got Trump.

In 1860, Abraham Lincoln wasn't even on the ballot in the majority of the southern states. The South succeeded because he was "not their president." I don't think we will see another revolution until significant enough portion of the country views a president as "not their president." We are close, but apparently not close enough, yet.
