Art’s Meow: A Fundraiser To Help Care For Community Cats

  • Monday, July 23, 2018

The Sixth Annual Art’s Meow, benefiting the Alice Fund, opens Friday, Aug. 3, in the Exum Gallery, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 305 W. Seventh St. The opening night show with reception will be from 5-8 p.m. The show and sale will run through Sunday, Sept. 2, at the Exum Gallery, Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Featured local artists for this year’s show include Sandra Babb, Miki Boni, Hollie Berry, Steve Davis, Lisa Denney, Melissa Gates, Robin Howe, Marty Littauer, Susan Parks, Eva Sabados, Charlene Simmons, Billy Weeks and more.

The show and sale is an eclectic mixture of works and mediums, ranging from charred wood and colored pencil renditions to photography, scarves and tote bags. A portion of each work is donated by the artist to The Alice Fund in support of its mission.

Requests to The Alice Fund trickle in almost daily, submitted online from The Alice Fund website, from residents of Chattanooga, Flintstone, Rossville, Ringgold, Cleveland and beyond. And the need continues to grow - from a total of 104 last year to 92 already received as of mid-July this year.

Needs vary. Sometimes it’s spay and neuter help. Often it is more complicated. Patients are typically seen first at the Cat Clinic by veterinarian and Alice Fund Founding Advisor Dr. Marcia Toumayan. Several additional area veterinarians have partnered with Dr. Toumayan and the Cat Clinic to provide reduced-cost care, with The Alice Fund and owners paying the balance.

“By accepting donations from generous cat lovers, The Alice Fund gives contributors a way to extend their love for cats to those in need,” said Dr. Toumayan.

The Alice Fund was started in 2008 and named in honor of a feral cat named “Alice.”
