Artillery Programs Offered At Point Park Aug. 25

  • Friday, August 10, 2018

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will conduct artillery programs at Point Park on Lookout Mountain on Saturday, Aug. 25.  Demonstrations, each lasting approximately 30 minutes, are scheduled at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Admission to Point Park is $7 per adult, ages 16 and over, youth, ages 15 and under, are free.

In October 1863, the men of Parker’s Virginia Battery were encamped inside what is now Point Park on Lookout Mountain. Throughout the month, they traded fire with Union batteries on Moccasin Bend and observed the Battle of Wauhatchie in Lookout Valley, all the while looking to the mountains visible to the north and east, hopeful that maybe just one of those peaks was from back home in Virginia. Visit Point Park to explore the experiences of Parker’s Virginians who lived and fought here in the fall of 1863.
