Dalton State Golf Has Good First Day At Carpet Capital

  • Saturday, September 8, 2018
Dalton State got off to a solid start as they sit in 15th place in a log jam on the leaderboard after the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic at The Farm in Rocky Face on Friday.

Junior Ben Rebne looks to be a threat to take the individual crown after an opening round (-3, 69). Rebne would start out hot with a birdie at No. 10 and parlay that into birds on Nos. 12, 14, & 15 to get to 4-under. He would suffer a small setback with a bogey at No. 16, but he would get it right back with a birdie on No.
18.

Turning to the front 9, Rebne would birdie No. 1 to get to 5-under. He would go +3 on Nos. 2-4, but he would close strong with birdies on Nos. 5 & 7 to finish out at 3-under and share 2nd place overall.

Fellow junior Sport Allmond would have a solid day with a round of (+4, 76). He would have a bad start to the day with a double-bogey on No. 10, but he would rebound with birdies on Nos. 12 & 14 to get back to (E). He would turn to the front at 2-over after an unlucky break with his second shot on No. 18. Allmond would recover and get some luck on No. 1 when he bladed his shot out of the bunker. The shot would have a nice spin and roll up right next to the hole for a tap in birdie. He would finish out with four bogeys and one birdie to sit in the middle of the pack overall in 49th.

Jack Clark, playing his first tournament for the Roadrunners, would post (+5, 77) on the day. His round would feature five bogeys and two double-bogeys on the difficult track at The Farm, but closing birdies at Nos. 7 & 9 really turned his round.

Southeast Whitfield product Matthew Cleary started with a solid back 9, making the turn at 1-over. The front 9 would be more difficult for Cleary as he found trouble and posted (+8, 44) for a round of 81.

Junior Eli Hendricks would have an up-and-down day with four birdies on the scorecard, but seven bogeys and four double-bogeys would haunt his round as he posted a round of 83.

The #3 Roadrunners will look to get back into the hunt when they compete tomorrow, September 8, in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic from The Farm in Rocky Face, Ga. Dalton State will tee off No. 10 beginning at 8:22 a.m. and will be paired with North Florida and Colorado State.
