Last summer, four internationally recognized conductors came to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to share their expertise as part of the Summer Pedagogy and Conducting Institutes.
Thanks to that successful launch, the institutes are returning.
Taking place on the UTC campus during the weeks of June 10-14 and June 17-21, the UTC Summer Pedagogy and Conducting Institutes are for music educators and ensemble directors hoping to improve and refine their conducting and rehearsal techniques while learning from nationally and internationally recognized clinicians.
Week One will feature Dr.
Mary Schneider from Eastern Michigan University for the Instrumental Institute and Dr. Kristina Caswell MacMullen from Baylor University for the Choral Institute.
Week Two will feature Dr. Kevin Sedatole from Michigan State University for the Instrumental Institute and Dr. John Dickson, professor emeritus from Louisiana State University, for the Choral Institute.
The institutes include morning lectures, drills and exercises, followed by afternoon rehearsals with an ensemble. Conducting Fellows will have daily podium time in a masterclass setting with feedback provided by guest clinicians and UTC music faculty.
To learn more about the different ways to participate—Conducting Fellow, Auditor and Hamilton County Schools Auditor—and tuition rates, visit the UTC Summer Pedagogy and Conducting Institutes webpage at utc.edu/arts-and-sciences/music/events/summer-information.
Early registration is open through May 1; the final registration deadline is June 1.
