The 15th-ranked Lee women’s golf team will trail West Florida by two strokes after the opening round of the 54-hole 2024 Gulf South Conference Women’s Golf Championship being staged at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Course. West Florida finished Monday’s round with a 9-over par 297 while the Lady Flames came in with an 11-over par 299.
It would appear to be a two-team race heading into Tuesday’s play as the nine teams in the tournament will play 18 more holes in the event that will conclude with the final 18 on Wednesday. Montevallo (309), Shorter (311), Mississippi College (311), West Georgia (312), Christian Brothers (325), Spring Hill (326) and Union (332) round out the tourney field.
Lee’s Supuschaya Srichantamit fired a 3-under 69 to grab the lead in the battle for medalist honors.
Millie Thompson (72) of West Florida trails Srichantamit by three strokes and Shorter’s Taylor Young (73) is four strokes back. Lee’s Banthita Phoncharatkun, Ida Lundh of Mississippi College and Kate Kenthack of West Florida each tallied a 2-over 74 and are five strokes back of the leader.
Lee’s Olivia Ireland and Hannah Nall finished with a 6-over 78 and are tied for 15th while Emily Ritchie totaled an 82 and is 28th in the 45 individual field. Tournament play is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
