Fleischmann Says He Could Not Disagree More With Obama On Gay Marriage Issue

  • Thursday, May 10, 2012

Congressman Chuck Fleischmann made the following statement in response to President Obama’s support for gay marriage.

“I could not disagree more with the President’s support for gay marriage.  Marriage is the union of one man and one woman, period.  This principle has been the bedrock of our Judeo-Christian family values, and stable families remain the key to a healthy society.

“I have fought the Obama Administration on this issue from the beginning. When President Obama refused to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA); I joined my colleagues in demanding that he uphold DOMA, a federal law which recognizes that marriage is between a man and woman.”

Rep. Fleischmann co-sponsored H. Con. Res. 25, which expressed the disagreement with President Obama on the issue of the Constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act.
