More Tennessee Libraries Set To Join Shared Network Of Resources

Tuesday, June 19, 2012

More Tennessee libraries will be able to provide additional resources to their users, thanks to a new service that’s being implemented as part of a statewide contract. A dozen public libraries around the state will begin using the Auto-Graphics AGent VERSO integrated library system (ILS) later this month.

The Tennessee State Library and Archives (TSLA) contracted with Auto-Graphics to provide access to an affordable, cutting edge ILS for public libraries statewide. Library users will benefit from improved access to a large collection of library materials available through the statewide interlibrary loan program. In addition to books and other printed materials, the ILS features an online portal that enables quick public access to resources like the Tennessee Electronic Library. The new service also helps librarians more efficiently perform tasks such as cataloging, processing returned materials and tracking library usage trends – which, in turn, frees them to spend more time assisting patrons.

“The Tennessee State Library and Archives takes seriously its directive to find new ways to use technology to assist library users and library staff,” Secretary of State Tre Hargett said. “This new system is another way we are adding more value to the services our libraries provide.”

A group of 25 libraries began using the new system in April and an additional 15 will begin in September. Together, the libraries included in the first three phases of the roll-out serve nearly 900,000 Tennesseans. The system has been heavily used since its inception.

TSLA staff members are assisting with administration and training to ensure patrons and local library staff can get the most out of the new ILS while simultaneously reducing the system’s management burden for local libraries.

Location Of The Delta Queen Is The Problem

The Delta Queen is a magnificent part of history and in many ways I'm pleased she is in town. Having the boat where she is is the problem. The boat blocks the view of and from the prettiest park in our town. The crew take many of the parking spots around the park leaving families to park across Frazier and schlep their kids, strollers and picnics to the park. You don't get fireworks ... (click for more)

Aimee Copeland reached for a potato chip and, with a pretty smile, popped it into her mouth and crunched it up. It sounds like nothing but it was an incredible “God moment” just one year after her bout with necrotizing fasciitis capitated the world and left a beautiful young woman with no hands, her left leg removed on one side and a right foot amputated on another.
