An announcement was made at the December East Ridge Council Meeting to name the city’s new Fire Chief.  East Ridge City Manager Andrew Hyatt appointed Shift Commander Mike Williams to the position of fire chief.

In August, Public Safety Director Eddie Phillips, who was the East Ridge fire and police chief, retired, leaving officials to either name a new public safety director or separate the two positions. After an extensive interview process, Chief Williams came out as the top choice.

Chief Williams has over 26 years of firefighting experience with the city of East Ridge. He began his career in 1993 as driver/operator and has been shift commander since 1995.  Chief Williams has received numerous awards and recognitions over his career, such as a three-time Firefighter of the Year recipient.  Chief Williams also heads up the Needy Child Fund in the city of East Ridge.

Chief Williams assumed his duties on Dec. 16.
