3,000 Prom Dresses To Be Given Away Free On March 23

Tuesday, March 12, 2013

The City of Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department is once again partnering with Rescue Prom, to offer thousands of beautiful new and slightly used Prom Dresses and accessories to area teenagers. This is an effort to give young ladies who may not be able to afford such a dress, a night to remember at their 2013 Prom.

Rescue Prom, created in the wake of the tragic April 27 tornadoes, has once again secured thousands of dresses, shoes, and accessories to be given away Saturday, March 23, at the New Hixson Community Center, at 5404 School Drive, the site of the former Hixson Middle School.

“We are proud to put a little joy into the thousands of young lady’s hearts this prom season” said Crystal Cadieux of Rescue Prom. “We are thrilled that the public along with Chattanooga Parks and Recreation has embraced us with this effort.”

Hixson Community Center and Rescue Prom staff will accept clean prom dresses and accessories Friday, March 22, at Hixson Community Center from 12-8 p.m. Donations for Tux rentals will also be accepted by Rescue Prom both Friday and Saturday.

Numerous prom accessories will also be available, including shoes, jewelry, and more, while supplies last with a seamstress to measure young men and ladies for appropriate sizes.

Please contact Crystal Cadieux at 423 298-4246 or by email at rescueprom@yahoo.com for information on donating, volunteering or signing a teen up to participate or visit the Recue Prom Facebook page. For information on the location, contact the Hixson Community Center at 423 490-9289.

Volunteers are still needed on both days for collection, distribution and organizing, especially on Friday, March 22, from 12-8 p.m. Clothing racks and hangers are also needed and can be returned if desired.

Rescue Prom is part of a nationwide effort titled Becca’s Closet, in an effort to provide prom dresses to thousands of young ladies who normally could not afford such an occasion.

Roy Exum: So How Am I Really Doing?

I’ve gotten hundreds of jokes since Tuesday when I wrote about feeling a little puny lately and expressing my belief that laughter is the best medicine. After breaking some bones in my arm as I slept last week and having no idea there were already some other fractures, it looked pretty certain I had a case of “The Big C.” I’ve always felt that stands for “courage” but the medical ...
