A man was shot Monday night after he told police he was trying to help his friend who was surrounded by four young black males.

The suspects were taken into custody.

At 9:55 p.m., Chattanooga Police officers responded to 2009 Huff Place on a burglary in progress. Officers spoke with Santos Morales.

He said he saw his friend Petronilo Gabriel surrounded by several males. When he confronted the suspects, one of them fired a gun striking him (Morales) in the side.

He was transported to the hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

Police found four suspects matching the description and arrested Travis Marice Martin, 23, and three juveniles ages 17, 13 and 13.

All four were charged with attempted murder and especially aggravated robbery.

Martin has had a number of arrests. Earlier this year, he pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and was given a three-year suspended sentence.
