Baylor Falls To Pope John Paul II In Division II State Soccer

  • Wednesday, October 22, 2014

The Baylor Red Raider soccer team battled Pope John Paul II through overtime Tuesday night in the first round of the Division II state soccer tournament.  The visitors were able to score in second overtime to earn the 4-3 win over Baylor.

The game was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Baylor would lead twice in the second half before giving up a game tying goal in the 79th minute.

Pope John Paul II scored the game winner with three minutes left in the second overtime period, ending the Red Raiders season.

"I am very proud of the girls," Baylor head coach Curtis Blair said. "They fought hard but just couldn't hold on to win. No one game dictates a season and I thought we had a good season with all the adversity that these girls went through. Rachel Payne (lone senior) was an outstanding leader for us. She did a great job of leading our younger players."

The shots were even at 5 each.

Baylor keeper Kaleigh Clemons recorded one save.
