Covenant Women Fall 90-54 At Transylvania

Alex Quimby scored a career-high 13 points, but the Covenant women's basketball team could not overcome a strong opponent as they fell 90-54 at Transylvania on Friday night. The game is one of two Covenant will play in Lexington this weekend.

Quimby came off the bench and tallied 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting overall, including 3-of-7 from behind the 3-point line, in 24 minutes of action. Haley Soles buried three triples and had four rebounds and three assists, while Morgan Woodward dished out a game-high four assists to go along with seven points three rebounds and two steals.

Clara Dirkse and Liz Dougherty chipped in nine and seven points, respectively, in the loss.

Covenant (0-3) had a season-low 15 turnovers and a season-high 14 assists. However, the Scots connected on just 30.3 percent (20-of-66) from the field and 7-of-23 from 3-point territory.

Transylvania (3-0), an NCAA tournament team from a season ago, sprinted out to a 32-12 lead after making 13 of its first 18 shots from the field. The Pioneers led 46-23 at halftime and would increase their margin in the second half.

Four players scored in double figures for Transylvania led by 17 points from Nicole Coffman. Lindsay Hieronymus added 12 points while Jordin Fender and Hannah Neeley had 10 points apiece. Alex McKenzie narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Pioneers made 12 3s on the night and shot 55.4 percent (36-of-65) overall while outrebounding the Scots 48-31.

Covenant will be back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Hanover in Lexington, Kentucky, on the campus of Transylvania.
