Chattanooga Zen Group To Host “Introduction To Zazen” On April 27

  • Sunday, April 6, 2014

The Chattanooga Zen Group is hosting an afternoon of “Introduction to Zazen” on Sunday, April 27, from 12-2 p.m., at ClearSpring Yoga, 17 N. Market Street (North Shore).

It is designed for those curious about Buddhism, Zen and meditation. No experience in sitting meditation is needed to participate, and chairs will be available for anyone not able to sit on floor cushions (“zafus”). There will also be a half-hour period of “Introduction to ‘Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind’”, a discussion of the seminal book of Suzuki Roshi’s lectures.

Arthur Stovall, Sensei, Zen priest and founder of the Chattanooga Zen Group (now resident in Zurich, Switzerland), will be leading the sessions, assisted by Do Jin Janis Hashe, Buddhist initiate who has been practicing for more than 30 years.

Beginning at noon, three separate 25-minute periods will provide basic zazen instruction and then offer a short sitting. The final period will be devoted to the book discussion. All are welcome and there is no charge.

For more information, contact Janis Hashe at 423 622-2862, or jhashe@epbfi.com.
