Promised Land And Pie In The Sky Trail Showcase Will Be At Cumberland Mountain State Park

  • Friday, July 18, 2014

The Promised Land and Pie in the Sky Trails Showcase will be held July 25 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. CT at Cumberland Mountain State Park. The event is free and open to the public.

Deputy Commissioner Brock Hill, a Crossville native, will make opening remarks for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. The showcase will include a performance by the Cumberland County Playhouse, living history, music, a quilt trail display, and an interpretive program with animals presented by Tennessee State Parks.

The event will help raise awareness about the Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways system, specifically the Promised Land and Pie in the Sky Trails.  Attendees will be encouraged to drive the trails and experience some of Tennessee’s tourism assets in the state’s small-towns and rural communities. They will also learn about adventures awaiting in Tennessee's award-winning State Parks System. Discover Tennessee Trails & Byways features 16 self-guided driving trails throughout all 95 Tennessee counties.

The Promised Land Trail, "Pilgrimage to President," offers 113 stops from Nashville throughout Cumberland, Davidson, Dekalb, Jackson, Putnam, Smith, White and Wilson counties, and celebrates Middle Tennessee’s historical sites and outdoor recreation with seven state parks, marinas, hiking trails, and nature centers.

The Pie in the Sky Trail, with the tagline, “MoonPies to Mountain Highs,” is the latest road tool for travelers to Southeast and Middle Tennessee. The trail leads travelers to destinations such as Lookout Mountain, the Cumberland Plateau in Monteagle and to Fall Creek Falls State Park and the Sequatchie Valley.

In addition to the marked trail route, travelers can also access information via TDTD’s comprehensive trail website at www.TnTrailsandByways.com or by downloading the new trail apps at iTunes. Trail brochures are also available at all Tennessee Welcome Centers.
