John Paul “Johnny” Rowlls, 72, of Lyerly, Georgia, died on Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Rowlls was born April 27, 1942, in Lyerly, son of Julia Mae Bartlett Rowlls and the late Grady Rowlls. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Baptist Church and the Parkinson’s Foundation. He attended Fall College and worked as a truck driver at Mount Vernon Mills for 30 years.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Rowlls; sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Terry Daggett.
Mr. Rowlls is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Rowlls; sons and daughter-in-law, Jervis Rowlls, Steve and Ellen McMeekin; a daughter, Candy Rowlls; mother, Julia Mae Rowlls; brother and sister-in-law, Leon and Gail Rowlls; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann Elrod, Martha Sue and Wayne Brown, Dorothy and Bobby Marshall; grandchildren, Shannon Schoenfeld, Jessica Ragan, Jonathan Duncan, Dakota McGuire, Michael Rowlls, Bailey Rowlls, Stevie McMeekin, Tiffany Reyes, and Jason Bryant; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Gabrielle Schoenfeld, Destiny Ragan, Paul Ragan, Marianna Ragan, Marissa Ragan, Noah McMeekin, Daniel Duncan, and Connor Duncan. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Rowlls will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, at the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dwayne Teague and Reverend John McGraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Johnson Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Daggett, Lamar Pettyjohn, Mark McGraw, Garrett Schoenfeld, Jason Bryant, and Barry Nelson. Honorary pallbearers will be the truck drivers of Mount Vernon Mills and the Staff of Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Rowlls will be in state at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour on Tuesday.
