Tom Rowland became mayor in 1991. He is currently Tennessee's second longest serving mayor. Only Alamo, Tennessee Mayor Tommy Green has served longer.
Municipal Court Judge Barrett Painter was also sworn into office, beginning his first term. Painter was appointed to the bench last month by the City Council. Mayor Rowland administered the oath of office.
Members of the Bradley County Election Commission presented Certificates of Election to each councilman and the mayor.
The ceremony included an opening prayer by Heritage Fellowship Church of God Pastor Steve Gilbert. The benediction and charge to city officials was made by North Cleveland Church of God Senior Pastor Mitch Maloney.
The Voices of Lee performed patriotic songs.
The only other business before the council during what was also an official session was the appointment of John Kimball to another two-year term as city attorney.
