The new Family Justice Center that plans to open this spring will be located at the Eastgate Center in Brainerd.
Executive Director Dr. Valerie Radu said it will be in a city-owned building at 911 Eastgate Loop next to the Brainerd Mission Cemetery.
While that building is readied, it will open this spring nearby at 5741 Cornelison Drive.
Dr. Radu said 10 agencies thus far have agreed to be involved in a coordinated operation aiding domestic violence victims at a single site.
A federal grant provided funds for planning and implementation.
Dr. Radu said Chattanooga will be part of a statewide alliance that includes six similar centers.
She said most people who were surveyed preferred a site at Eastgate. She said it is near state offices, the VA and career school training programs.
Councilwoman Carol Berz said the facility will also serve as a community meeting place and have art displays from the city recreation program. She noted the program is just not for involvement with the courts, but also will have a wellness component to help restore victims.
Councilman Russell Gilbert said the location is "at the center of our community. It will provide good access for a lot of people."
The City Council is set to act next Tuesday on resolutions to pay Derthick, Henley & Wilkerson $356,374 for architectural, engineering and interior design services for the renovation and to pay Luken Holdings $102,900 to lease 7,350 square feet of space at the temporary site.
