Tyner Academy senior Michael Haywood has verbally committed to Alabama A&M University baseball for 2015.

The pitcher and first baseman was named to the All-District Team in 2013 and was named Offensive Player of the year for his high school team.

He has played summer ball with the Tennessee Express since 2011.
The Express is coached by his father, Mike Haywood, along with Chris Shepherd and Andy Duncan.

Haywood plays fall ball for a team based out of Rome, Ga. - the Double Day Rockies coached by Charlie Culberson and Washington Nationals head scout Eric Robinson.

He said, "When I went on my official visit to Alabama A&M, I really enjoyed my time with the players and the staff in getting to know them and how things were done at the next level. Playing Division 1 baseball is something that I have dreamed about since I first started playing baseball. I plan on majoring in sports management and hopefully when my career has ended I can maybe one day own my own team.

"After my teammate from last year, Chae Butler, signed with Kentucky State, we knew that we could play at the next level. Chae and I are like brothers. We play on the Tennessee Express together and we have been playing together since we were 7 years old."
