The Lee University Wind Ensemble will return to the stage for its second concert of the semester on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Conn Center.

Dr. David Holsinger, conductor, will again be joined by associate conductor, Winona Gray Holsinger. Graduate conductors Daven Haskett and Timothy Lindley will present a program of seasoned composers and several new voices in the wind music world.

Among those names are Aaron Copland, Percy Grainger, and Morton Gould. America’s march heritage will be represented by favorites such as Karl King and John Philip Sousa.

A few of the works featured in the concert will include the winning entry in the 2015 Dallas Wind Symphony Fanfare Competition, the 1951 “Canzona” by Peter Mennin, and a transcription written for the United States Marine Band Library from the 1889 Mascagni opera, “Cavalleria Rusticana.” According to Dr. Holsinger, it will be an hour of “very listenable band music.”

The Lee Wind Ensemble is composed of 53 student musicians. Under the direction of Dr. Holsinger, the group is committed to the highest level of performance of instrumental ensemble literature for winds and percussion, and performs for special concerts on the Lee University campus, said officials.

The concert is a free, non-ticketed event, and everyone is invited to attend.  For more information about the concert or Lee’s School of Music, contact music@leeuniversity.edu or call 614-8240.
