Jim Sexton

Jim L. Sexton died on Saturday, November 21, 2015 surrounded by his family, who loved him dearly and deeply.

Jim was born in 1933 in Maynardville, Tn.  He grew up in Knoxville, proudly graduating from Knoxville Central High School, and attended UT Knoxville until enlisting in the Army in 1954, where he served as a military police officer.  Upon discharge from the service, he was offered a job by Huttig Sash & Door Company, which began his long career in the building industry.

In 1965, he and his bride moved to Chattanooga and he worked in executive sales for Masonite Corporation, until his retirement. During his career, he became a builder and landlord of quality rental homes.  His second career in retirement was overseeing his rental properties, which he did with passion and pride.

He was preceded in death by his parents, JR and Lassie Sexton, and brother, Bob Sexton.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Broyles Sexton, and two daughters, Angie Sexton Luebben and Jayne Sexton (Kent) Trapnell.  He also leaves behind his pride and joy in grandsons, Sam Trapnell, Brian Luebben, and Joe Luebben.

Per Jim’s wishes, services will be private.  Instead, he requested that everyone simply do something nice for someone in his memory.  If you would like, you can come by the family home between the hours of 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, when they will welcome visitors and shared memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the Ronald McDonald House of Chattanooga, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, both of which he quietly and happily supported for years.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
