Robert Earl “Granddaddy” White, 96, of Rock Spring, Georgia, died on Monday, November 9, 2015.

He was born in Holland, Ga., to the late Robert Alexander White and Fannie Mae Ratliff White. He had resided in Rock Spring, Ga., for the past 63 years. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army where he was a prisoner of war in a German camp for over 18 months. He received a Purple Heart and numerous other awards and medals. He retired from The State of Georgia where he worked for the Road Department for over thirty years. After retiring he worked for W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe for several years. He was a longtime active member of Center Grove Baptist Church where he served as deacon and a member of the Men’s Literature Sunday School Class. He enjoyed camping and traveling as well as building various crafts.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Fannie Ruth Parker White, their son, Robert Edward “Eddie” White, granddaughters, Amy White Perry, all of Rock Spring, Maranda White of Rossville, grandchildren, Emma Sweeten, Robert Lane Perry, Elizabeth “Libby” Perry, sister, Nancy (Louis) Westbrook of Buford, Ga., several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 11, from 2–4 and 6-8 p.m. and Thursday, from 11 a.m. until the funeral.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, in the chapel with Pastor David Brown and Chaplain Ricky Studdard officiating. Interment will follow at Rock Spring Cemetery.
