Snow Likely, Along With Frigid Wind Chill Readings, For Chattanooga Beginning Sunday Night

The Chattanooga area is expected to get snow starting Sunday night after the arrival of frigid temperatures.

The snow is expected to continue on Presidents Day and may last for several days.

Here is the latest Chattanooga forecast:

    • This Afternoon Partly sunny, with a high near 53. West wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
    • Tonight Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17.
      North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
    • Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 29. Wind chill values between 4 and 14. Northeast wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
    • Sunday Night A 40 percent chance of snow, mainly after 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 21. Northeast wind around 5 mph.
    • Washington's Birthday Snow likely, mainly after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Northeast wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
    • Monday Night Snow likely, mainly before 8pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
    • Tuesday A chance of snow before 3pm, then a chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 37. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
    • Tuesday Night A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 18.
    • Wednesday A 30 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 32.
    • Wednesday Night A 20 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12.
    • Thursday A 20 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 32.
    • Thursday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.
    • Friday A slight chance of rain and snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 41. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Amy Maxwell of Hamilton County EMS said, "Arctic air is moving into Hamilton County this weekend. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the wind chill readings will be as low as -10F to -20 F in the mountains and -5F to 5 F in the valley.

"Hamilton County Emergency Services wants everyone to remember this important information:

COLD AIR IMPACTS

•        Those not dressed appropriately will be susceptible to hypothermia/frostbite.

•        Exposed pipes may freeze

•        Threat to outside pets and livestock

PREPARE FOR:

•        Dress appropriately if you are going outdoors, especially children

•        Cover or insulate exposed pipes

•        Bring in or provide shelter for livestock or outdoor pets

•        Check on the elderly or those with insufficient heat
