Lee’s School Of Music To Present Honors Recital Friday

  • Tuesday, March 17, 2015

The Lee University School of Music will present its annual Honors Recital on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

The recital will honor students who represent the highest standards of achievement in musical performance. The event will showcase 12 performers selected by the School of Music faculty from over 300 full-time music majors.

Selection of students for this event began early in February with recommendations from faculty, followed by auditions. Based on composite scores from those auditions, the faculty selected students to perform for the occasion.

The program will represent all of the applied areas of performance, including brass, woodwind, percussion, strings, piano and voice. Musical selections will include works by Schubert, Strauss, Saint-Saëns, Dutilleux, Ravel, Clarke, Aldridge, Gröndahl, Donizetti, Giordano, Liebermann, and Kapustin.

The students come from a variety of Lee music faculty performance studios. Leigha Nilsen, flute, is from the studio of Janet Hale. Duo Zhang, violin, and Lacey Thwing, viola, are from the studio of Xiaoqing Yu. Kristiana McCombs, cello, is from the studio of Theodore Kartal. Victoria Betts Boler, percussion, is from the studio of Dr. Andy Harnsberger. Joey Archer, trombone, is from the studio of Dr. Douglas Warner. Brooke Porritt, mezzo-soprano, is from the studio of Cheryl Brendel. Lauren Hembree, soprano, is from the studio of Delores Beery. Carly Wingfield, soprano, is from the studio of Virginia Horton. Tyler Plemons, tenor, is from the studio of Tony Deaton. Man-Ling Bai and Wan-Lin Yu, both piano, are from the studio of Ning An.

This event is free, non-ticketed and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow in the main lobby of the Communications Building, which is directly across the street from Pangle Hall.
