Fred M. Pratt, 78, of Ooltewah, died on Monday, March 23, 2015.

Mr. Pratt was born on February 19, 1937 in Chattanooga. He graduated from Chattanooga Central High School in 1955, attended Tennessee Polytechnic Institute, 1955 – 1957 and served in the US Army – 1960.  He worked for Combustion Engineering / ABB in Chattanooga TN for 46 Years before retiring.  Fred was a life- long member of Highland Park Christian Church / Hickory Valley Christian Church, (Formerly Highland Park Christian Church) in Chattanooga, where he served as deacon, elder, and board member. Fred faithfully served God in many capacities throughout his life. He left behind a legacy of service to the Lord.

Fred was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, camping and the beach. He also loved bowling, softball and coaching baseball and was a die hard Atlanta Braves fan.  Fred and his wife recently spent six weeks touring the scenery of the western U.S. including an extended tour of Alaska.

Fred was a graphic design engineer who could design, plan, fix and build anything and everything and gladly assisted anyone needing help in that way.

Fred loved his church. The Pratt family is one of the pillars of the Hickory Valley Christian Church. There is no doubt that he had a strong relationship with God and witnessed every chance he had.

Most of all, Fred cherished his family and spent his entire life providing for them. Fred set an excellent example and legacy for us all to follow and his family and friends will miss him terribly.

Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Grace Brown Pratt; son, Chris (Sherri) Pratt; daughters,  Kim (Gregg) Ballew and Karen Pratt; grandchildren, Libby and James Pratt, Alex, Audrey and Emma Ballew; and sister, Jeannine (Charles) Bridges; cousins, Bobby (Linda) Rose, Larry (Jeanette) Rose, David Barrow, Alfred Cobb all of Chattanooga, Waymon Rose of Dallas, TX, Norma Ellingham of Pompano Beach, FL, Peggy Ford of The Villages, FL and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Jack H. and Louise Pratt of Chattanooga; and brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Jo Ann Pratt of Ooltewah.

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, at Hickory Valley Christian Church (6605 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, TN 37421).

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 27, at Hickory Valley Christian Church with Reverend Gary Armes officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
