Chattanooga State April And May Fine Arts Calendar

As the Humanities and Fine Arts Division at Chattanooga State Community College finishes up the spring semester, they are offering several more musical performances and theatrical productions to end the season. All events are free, open to the public, and presented at the Chattanooga State Humanities Theatre, 4501 Amnciola Hwy.

Chattanooga State students will display their visual artworks in the Humanities Theatre Gallery beginning April 9 at 5:30 p.m. The display will run through May 4.

A recital of chamber music at 2:30 p.m. on April 12 will be performed by Chattanooga State music faculty members Nicholas Hartline, clarinet and Ronda Ford, flute. Evelyn Dias will accompany them on piano. The trio will be joined by Dillon Davis, who will provide interpretive dance on some of the selections that will feature the music of Bach and Bizet.

The Chattanooga State Jazz Band will present an evening of great Jazz standards under the musical direction of Jay Stanfill on April 13 at 7:30 p.m. while final productions for graduating students of the Professional Actor Training Program will be offered beginning April 17 through May 3.

Voice students of Dr. Jennifer Arbogast present an evening of vocal solos, duets, and chamber music on April 21. Then on April 27 there will be a performance of the voices of Kimberlin Lacy, soprano, and Daniel Meeks, bass. The duo will present a recital including music from art song, Opera, and Broadway traditions. On April 28, students of voice and applied instrumental study will round out the month followed by a Clarient Studio recital featuring students of instructor Nicholas Hartline on April 29. All recitals begin at 7:30 p.m.

An Evening of 10-Minute Plays will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on both May 1 and 2 featuring first-year students in the Professional Actor Training Program. Attendees should note that some plays contain adult content and language and are not appropriate for children.

The final two recitals for the 2015 spring semester will be presented at 7:30 p.m. On May 6, Chattanooga State music students, Cassandra Cooksey, soprano, and Larry Cotton, trombone, will present vocal and trombone works by classical and contemporary composers, while on May 8, Tyler McKenzie, tenor, and Brianna Smith, piano, will present a recital of piano and vocal works by classical and contemporary composers.
