SECC Reminds Public Of AmeriCorps Week

The week of March 9-13 is AmeriCorps Week. The Southeast Conservation Corps invites the public to help celebrate this nationwide program which has effected millions of lives across the country.

Some AmeriCorps Facts:
· 900,000: Number of individuals who have served as AmeriCorps members since 1994.
· 1.2 Billion: Total number of hours served by AmeriCorps members.
· $2.8 Billion: Total amount of Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards earned by AmeriCorps members.
· 4 Million: Number of community volunteers managed or mobilized by AmeriCorps members in 2014.
· $625 million: Amount of resources from private, philanthropic, and other sources leveraged by AmeriCorps programs each year.
· 25,000: Number of sites that AmeriCorps members serve at each year.

In Chattanooga, SECC is just one organization which helps to place local young people in AmeriCorps positions.

SECC operates AmeriCorps Conservation Crews, where AmeriCorps members will learn conservation skills while working on public lands throughout the region. Last year 13 AmeriCorps positions were completed through SECC, and a total of $14,100 worth of Segal AmeriCorps education awards were awarded. This year SECC has plans to offer at least 40 AmeriCorps placements. Current AmeriCorps openings can be found at southeastconservationcorps.org.
