Atlanta Silverbacks Dodge Chattanooga Upset In Overtime

The Chattanooga Football Club was minutes away from a 1-0 upset of visiting Atlanta Silverbacks in the third round of the US Open Cup.

After battling for 87 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Chattanooga team representing the NPSL scored the potential game winner when Luke Winter finished off a cross from John Finlay.

Minutes later, a foul in the box by CFC led to a Atlanta penalty kick which was converted by Shaka Bangura and sent the game to overtime. 

Atlanta's Jaime Chavez found the net in the second 15 minute overtime and held on for the 2-1 win. 

Altanta advances to the fourth round and will travel to Red Bull Arena to play the MLS New York Red Bulls.
  Chattanooga ends their run in the US Open Cup after two penalty kick wins in the first two rounds.  

Chattanooga turns around and plays two games this weekend as they host the U.S. Soccer National Amateur Championship.  Chattanooga will play a semifinal game against the Maryland Bays at 7:30 p.m. 

The NY Greek Americans and Michigan Bucks will play at 5 in the other semifinal.

Winners will play in the championship Saturday night and losers will play in a consolation game.
