Chattanooga Volleyball Adds Darrin VanHorn To Staff

  • Friday, June 26, 2015

Chattanooga Mocs head volleyball coach Travis Filar announced the addition of Darin VanHorn to his staff Thursday morning. VanHorn joins Filar’s staff after a stint as a volunteer assistant at the University of Virginia.

“Darin is a tremendous fit for our staff,” Filar stated. “Finding that right fit for our program and staff was the major focus during the process. I believe we found the right person most importantly, one who will positively impact our program and is a coach on the rise in our profession.

“We are getting the team culture where we want it…a committed, confident, hard-working group. Darin also has worked with fantastic coaches and in really strong programs. His positive energy and experiences add a lot to our culture.”

VanHorn spent one season in his role at UVA. The Cavaliers went 17-14 tying for sixth in the ACC. Prior to Charlottesville, VanHorn wore several hats while getting his undergraduate degree (2013) in kinesiology at Penn State.

He was the travel manager for the men’s volleyball squad from 2009-12 and the highly-regarded women’s program for two (2012-13) including the 2013 NCAA Championship run. He served as head coach for the women’s club team from 2013-14. VanHorn also played for the men’s club squad from 2009-13.

The Mocs open the season August 28-29 in Maclellan Gym for the Chattanooga Classic presented by Hampton Inn & Suites (Downtown Chattanooga). The tournament presents the first three of a 14-match home slate. Admission is free.
