Ghoulish Lawyer Advertising - And Response (2)

  • Friday, July 10, 2015

A few days ago (June 25th, 2015) a horrible accident occurred on I-75 at exit 11 in Ooltewah which involved nine vehicles and resulted in the death of six people.

Within a few days one of our self-proclaimed teams of protectors of the deceased and injured appeared on television expressing their alleged expertise in handling accidents involving tractor trailer rigs.

On Wednesday, July 1, 2015 the first billboard appeared on Bailey Avenue and other locations by two more of the self-proclaimed insiders of the personal injury practice of law soliciting cases against tractor trailer companies.

Perhaps it is just a coincidence that the appearance of the ads appeared shortly after the tragic accident. I think not.

All lawyers strive to develop new business and obtain clients. Up until 1978 when the United States Supreme Court removed restrictions on lawyer advertising under the misguided principle of the public's "right to know" under the First Amendment the public airways and the social media outlets have been swamped with open and blatant solicitations which are often deceptive and misleading, if not false.

The public and the vast majority of the members of the legal profession deserve a better image,

I don't know anything about the billboards but I do know that the TV ad has been around for months.

He is wrong about the billboards also. The contract for those was executed in April. Billboard companies don't move that fast. We saw growing issues with trucking claims for quite some time now. The "Alabama Invasion" started billboards in our area and we felt forced to battle their attempts to bring their business model into our area that was felt would not be beneficial to our community.  Of course, he could have made a simple phone call and discovered the same.
