The sorrow is felt all around our city
Everyone says, “That’s such a pity”
Here we stand looking down at the ground
Remnants of the horror from that day all around
Sure we know it will be heard far and near
But for what reason, we still aren’t clear
These are the words that ring out with a frown
“Five Men Down in Chatt Town”
We bind together to heal our wounds
We pledge our allegiance to the American tunes
We stand together to prove “Chattanooga Strong”
But again, something is so wrong
We cry our tears and hold one another’s hand
Candles are lit to add a gesture so grand
As all make their way to stand around
“Five Men Down in Chatt Town”
Those words are uttered again, but with fear
For what is coming, we still aren’t clear
Raise your flags and say a prayer
Just let their families know you care
Because those words are always found
“Five Men Down in Chatt Town”
We are still proud to share our city
But we don’t want or need your pity
“Chattanooga Strong”, not just words to say
We have actions working as we pray
We are so proud of our men in blue
They are the ones we look up to
Those soldiers who fell will never leave our mind
As we do unto others and be so kind
So stand aside and you’ll see we’re not down
Look at our city, but make sure you look all around
We are red, white and blue to the core
We take care of our own and much more
It is very clear we still need time to mend
Because we will never be the same again
