Brooks, Jimmy Flynn

Jimmy Flynn Brooks, 89, of Ooltewah, died on Sunday, July 5, 2015 at a local health care facility.  
 
He was the youngest son of the late Gilbert Alonzo and Zella Thomas Brooks and was preceded in death by his wife Iva Jean Ball Brooks; three brothers, Marion, Gordon and Henry Brooks.
 
He moved to Ooltewah from Silverdale at the age of 14 to the Brooks farm where he lived the rest of his life. He was retired from the Electric Power Board and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II in the South Pacific.
 
He and his wife Iva Jean were big supporters of the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis since 1972.
 
His passion was his yard and gardening and he grew the best tomatoes you have ever tasted.
 
He was a member of the Ooltewah United Methodist Church.
 
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Flynn and her husband Harold Hyde; son, Jimmy Michael and his wife Candy Brooks; grandchildren, Robbin (Todd) Faulk, James Hood, Steven (Shelly) Hood, Wendy (Jonathon) Brown and Nathan (Daryth) Hood; great-grandchildren, Spencer and Savannah Hood and their mother Christy Hood, Alex and Andy Faulk, Madison and Megan Hood, Gracie and Jake Hood and Hunter Ottinger; special sister-in-law, June Ball who faithfully visited him the last four years of his life; several nieces and nephews.
 
The family would like to thank the staff of Morning Pointe Assisted Living and the staff of Life Care of  Ooltewah for their compassionate care of our loved one. 
 
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, in Ooltewah Cemetery.  
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.
 
The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory & Florist, 7414 Old Lee Highway.
