Covenant Volleyball Picked Fourth Preseason Poll

  • Thursday, August 13, 2015
The Covenant volleyball team is once again highly-ranked in the USA South entering the 2015 season. The Lady Scots were picked to finish second in the South Division and fourth overall in the conference's preseason poll which was released on Thursday.

This marks the third straight year Covenant has been predicted to finish inside the top five in the conference. The Lady Scots have advanced to at least the semifinal round of the USA South Tournament in each of the last two seasons.

Covenant is coming off a record-breaking 2014 campaign that featured 27 victories and a runner-up finish in the USA South Tournament.
Third-year head coach Joanna Ehman returns several top players from last year's squad with four starters returning.

The Lady Scots gained 119 points overall for a fourth place prediction. Covenant garnered 12 points in the South Division, one more than third place Piedmont.

Two-time defending conference champion Maryville tops both the South Division and the overall poll. The Scots gained four first places votes within the division and nine of the 13 first place tallies overall. Meredith was picked second overall and Averett third. Both teams received a pair of first place votes.

In the South Division, Piedmont picked up one first place vote and was selected third, while LaGrange and Huntingdon complete the division.

The top three teams in the South Division and the top five teams from the North Division will qualify for the USA South Tournament. The tournament will be held Nov. 6-7 at the top overall seed.
