University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior quarterback Jacob Huesman was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announce today. Huesman ran and threw for over 100 yards each in UTC's 31-21 win at Samford on Saturday.
The Chattanooga quarterback rushed for 150 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. He topped 3,000 career yards on the ground, making him one of only three in league history with 4,000 passing and 3,000 rushing yards in a career (Armanti Edwards (Appalachian State, 2006-09) and Greg Hill (Georgia Southern, 1996-99).
Huesman accounted to 181 yards and two scores through the air.
He was 14-23 passing and now has 57 career touchdown passes, which is tied for fourth place all-time in the SoCon. He guided the Mocs offense so efficiently that UTC held the ball for 36:42 in the game.
This is the 10th time Huesman has earned a SoCon weekly award and his six offensive honor. It was the ninth time in his career he ran and threw for 100 yards in a game and his 10th 100-yard rushing contest.
The Mocs are back on the road at Presbyterian this week. Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) in Clinton, S.C. Chattanooga's next home game is Oct. 10 against Furman.
