Led by a handful of Chattanooga area prep soccer players, Tennessee Wesleyan University (TWU) faces visiting Truett McConnell Thursday in a semifinal match in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC).
The No.4 seeded TWU Lady Bulldogs (12-5-1) defeated St. Andrews (N.C.) last week on penalty kicks, 6-5, to advance to the semis. While Bryan College faces Union in the second semifinal match, also to be played in Athens.
Local players on the TWU roster are Hannah Dearing (All-State- Notre Dame HS), Samantha Green (Hixson HS), Karla Martinez (Hixson HS), Emiley Saddler (East Hamilton HS) and Sydney Smith (Silverdale HS).
Green and Sadler, who has started eight of 18 matches, have scored one goal each this season, while Dearing, who has started seven of 18 matches as a freshman, has one assist.
TWU defeated Truett-McConnell, 1-0, during the regular season.
