Children’s Hospital at Erlanger has received a perfect score of 100 on the National Pediatric Readiness Assessment, achieving the highest ranking in Tennessee for the readiness of hospital emergency departments to take care of children with emergency conditions.
Over 76% of Tennessee’s hospitals with emergency departments participated in this voluntary assessment. Tennesseehospitals scored an impressive median score of 89, while the national median score was 69. Each participating hospital was evaluated on readiness in caring for pediatric patients in the emergency department, using guidelines for emergency administration, physicians and other healthcare providers, quality and process improvement, patient safety, policies and procedures, and equipment, supplies and medications.
“The participation of Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in this assessment has helped Tennessee to be recognized as a leader in the country for pediatric emergency care,” said Rhonda G. Phillippi, Executive Director of Tennessee Emergency Medical Services for Children.
“As the only comprehensive regional pediatric center in Southeast Tennessee, Children’s Hospital at Erlanger is well-prepared to handle any type of pediatric emergency or trauma that may come through our doors,” said Donald J. Children’s Hospital at Erlanger recorded 41,502 pediatric emergency visits during fiscal year 2014-2015. The hospital provides pediatric critical care transport, as well as a neonatal ICU and a pediatric ICU to care for the most critical patients.
