The Ringgold Playhouse will open its "high-energy, face-paced" comedy, Noises Off, for a two-week run beginning Thursday night.
The show, which is the company’s third of the season, follows the mishaps of live theatre, and is sure to offer up a lot of laughs to audiences, said officials.
“It’s a crazy show with so many laughs….we’ve really had a blast working on it,” said Adam Cook, TRP’s executive director. “It’s been an interesting couple of months working on it. We’ve had a ton of fun, but it’s been a very difficult show to get a handle on. Between the complicated set, the number of props needed, and the madness of having nine actors running around in a frenzy, it’s been challenging….but in a good way.”
Review for Noises Off:
The story follows the hilarious struggles of a theatre company trying to open and perform the fictional farce Nothing On, and gives the audience a look at the company’s mishaps as the cast and crew continuously fight with each other both onstage and off. The play-within-a-play structure offers non-stop laughter that has delighted audiences since the early 1980's.
“It’s just a great show all around,” said Mr. Cook. “Even if you’re not a big theatergoer, this show is definitely one that will win you over.”
The play opens with the theatre’s director, “Lloyd Dallas,” played by Jeff Buchwald, trying to run his team through their final rehearsal before opening night. The story then follows the crew through a horrible matinee performance where audiences will get a chance to see some of the back stage shenanigans that take place behind the set.
“Act II of the play is very interesting….we flip the set around, and the audience gets to see the behind-the-scenes aspect of theatre, only this crew is chasing one another around and bickering while still trying to hit their entrances and exits on time,” said Mr. Cook.
The third act of the play sees the company finally break down with a terrible, but hilarious performance, before ultimately tying up all the loose ends.
“There’s not a dull moment in the show,” said Mr. Cook. “It’ll grab the audience’s attention and keep it the entire night.”
The cast is rounded out by Kimberly Tyner Jones as “Dotty Otley,” Daniel Pound as “Garry LeJeune,” Dan Lyons as “Frederick Fellowes,” Jennifer Bryant as “Brooke Ashton,” Monica Woodlief as “Belinda Blair,” Tosha Kranz as “Poppy Norton-Taylor,” Zachery Green as “Tim Allgood,” and Ed Huckabee as “Selsdon Mowbray.”
The show runs Thursdays through Saturdays, June 16–25, with performances at 7:30 p.m., and a special matinee slated for Saturday, June 25, at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for seniors and students. They may be purchased in person at Ringgold City Hall, over the phone at 706.935-3061, or online at www.cityofringgold.com.
