State Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston) and Rep. Ron Travis (R-Dayton) announced on Thursday that the city of Dayton in Rhea County will receive a $348,477 grant from Tennessee Department of Transportation.
The Transportation Alternatives Grant will fund Phase 2 of a greenway system from Point Park to downtown following Richland Creek. It will include pedestrian bridges, ADA upgrades, landscaping, signage and pedestrian lighting.
“This is great news for Rhea County,” said Senator Yager. “I am very pleased these funds will be available to them to make Dayton a more accessible and beautiful attraction. These improvements will help small businesses and the future impact on our community’s economic development is undeniable.”
“I am thankful that TDOT has recognized a need for these improvements in our community," said Rep. Travis. "Good roads and infrastructure means businesses are more likely to locate here, and our families are kept even safer on a daily basis.”
The Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) began providing funds to local governments in 1991. More than $317 million in grants has been distributed by the department since. The money has gone to 267 communities across the Volunteer State to build sidewalks, bike and pedestrian trails and to renovate historic train depots and other transportation related structures.
