Six Chattanooga area players have been named to the 2016 Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team.
McCallie placed fourplayers – Carson McCoon, Corbin Brooksbank, Palmer Steventon and Quinn Smith – on the Division II squad while Soddy-Daisy’s Tre Carter and Bradley Central’s Brandon Thompson earned spots on the Class 3A team.
The quartet of McCallie standouts led the Blue Tornado (31-7) to the state tournament where they were eliminated in the Division II-AA semifinals by Brentwood Academy.
That turned out to be coach Greg Payne’s final game with the Blue Tornado. He resigned last week.
Carter, the triple-threat outfielder who originally signed with Tennessee, was drafted in the 11th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft and signed with the San Diego Padres.
Thompson, a right-handed pitching ace for Bradley Central, led the Bears to District 5-3A regular season and tournament championships and a Region 3-3A title. The Bears (28-7) were ousted from the postseason in a 1-0 loss to Stewarts Creek in the sectional.
