Gary Michael Ellis
A burglary of an auto that was at the YMCA in East Brainerd has led to the arrest of a couple.
Gary Michael Ellis, 36, of 7118 Sylar Road, Ooltewah, is charged with criminal conspiracy, burglary of an auto, three counts of theft of property under $500, and three counts of theft of identity.
Lauren Brittany Delaney, 22, of 1813 Jackson Square Dr., Hixson, is charged with criminal conspiracy, burglary of an auto, three counts of theft of property under $500, and two counts of theft of identity.
Authorities said video showed a female go inside the women's locker room at the Y on Shallowford Road and take a set of car keys. The remote was then used to locate and open the woman's car in the parking lot.
Items taken from the car included a handbag, cash, a candle holder, a check book and credit and debit cards.
Video also showed a person waiting in a white Chevy Blazer for Ms. Delaney in a white Chevy Blazer. The thieves began using the credit cards found in the car.
Police obtained videos of the male from the Blazer entering H.H. Gregg to use the card.
An informant said the woman in the Y video was Ms. Delaney. A search of associates of Ms. Delaney turned up Ellis. In the H.H. Gregg video he was wearing the same Braves hat as in a recent Facebook picture.
Ms. Delaney admitted she was with Ellis in the video.
Police said Ellis has a 2002 white Chevy Blazer registered to him.
Ellis has an extensive criminal record. He was out on bond on meth charges at the time of the new arrest.
