Perry Vandergriff
Perry Dean Vandergriff, 56, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, September 17, 2016.
Perry was born in 1960 in Chattanooga. He was a graduate of Tyner HS and received his bachelor's of Music Education from the University of TN Knoxville, where he was a member of the Pride of the Southland Marching Band all four years, under the direction of his mentor, WJ Julian. He also later received his graduate degree in conducting from UTC.
Through the years, he served as the band director at Notre Dame, Northwest Whitfield, and East Ridge High School and Middle School, where he was both a music instructor and mentor for hundreds of students over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lorene Vandergriff, as well as his brother, Mark Vandergriff.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dianne Vandergriff; his daughter, McCaull; his son Jon-Michael and wife, Jill and daughter, Holdenl; his best friend of 41 years, Joel Denton and wife, Kerry; his brother, Glen (Linda) Vandergriff, as well as many beloved friends and family.
A memorial service will be held in his honor on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m., at Bethel Temple Assembly of God in Hixson. Friends may pay their respects from 3-6 p.m. prior to the service.
